COURSE/WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION

ABOUT THIS COURSE: Over the course of this 5 week course, students will have the opportunity to explore the linocut printing process and develop their own skills in the medium. Students will learn to carve out patterns using different blades and techniques. They will practice and build new skills by designing, carving and printing their own images, either using provided images or developing our own if more confident, as they develop their transferring and carving skills and understanding of positive and negative space. All students will go home with prints of their own designs. Week 1: Designing image using reference material provided and brought from home - transfer image onto lino block. Introduction into the mini press. Week 2: Starting to carve, test printing negative and positive space onto newsprint. Week 3: Testing inks, surfaces, mini press and registration. Week 4: Exploring ideas and developing own style. Week 5: Continue working on developing practice, test printing and final prints This course is suitable for beginners and improvers, or those who would like to refresh their skills. TUTOR INFORMATION: Alondene Phillips is an artist, maker and educator working primarily in ceramics, textile art and printmaking from her home studio in Milton Keynes. Find out more here: https://www.alondenephillips.com/ MATERIALS PROVIDED FOR THE DURATION OF EACH SESSION: Use of mini press 1 x A4 Lino block (which can be cut down to smaller print blocks - additional blocks can be bought from the artist) Ink and cartridge paper for final prints ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Enjoy complimentary teas and coffees on site. Please bring your lunch and snacks. LOCATION: This workshop will take place in Studio 15, situated on the ground floor with accessible access. Accessible parking spaces are available to anyone who requires them.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS FOR BOOKING WORKSHOPS AND COURSES Payment for classes and workshops You must pay in full for your workshop or course in advance of attending your first class. Withdrawals, transfers and cancellations If you need to withdraw from a course and inform us in writing at least 14 working days before the course is due to start, you will be eligible for a refund of your fees minus £5.00 to cover administration costs. If you withdraw from a course at any other time, you will not be eligible for a refund. However, in exceptional circumstances and at our discretion we may make refunds of some or all of the fees, and will deduct a £5.00 fee for administration. Bookings can be transferred to another course at no additional charge (apart from the difference in course fees) if you inform us at least 14 working days in writing. We will refund your fee in full in the unlikely event that we cancel a course or workshop, for example, due to lack of numbers, tutor ill-health, or other unforeseen circumstances. Class materials Your course/workshop confirmation email will advise you on what materials you need to bring to the class. Unless stated on the workshop details information on our website lunch is NOT provided but free tea and coffee are available. Photography/video By taking part in a WAC course/workshop or event you give full rights to use any images resulting from photography/ filming during the event. Personal data According to the Data Protection Act 2018 we are required to advise you of the uses we will make of the personal data you provide when making a class booking.
