Story Writing Competition for Schools 2023

Westbury Arts Centre ‘A Special Place’ story writing competition

On Sunday, 23rd April 2023, the winning young authors from Milton Keynes schools attended our awards ceremony in the Barn Gallery.

Winners and highly commended entries were from: Caroline Haslett, St Thomas Aquinas, Great Linford, Denbigh, Watling Academy and Sir Herbert Leon schools. This year we received 34 entries from six schools plus the home education sector. Nine pupils, their families and teachers attended the event, and judges from Westbury studios, Art Club and volunteers came along to show their support.

The stories have been published in a booklet, which can be seen on the left, accompanied by illustrations from talented students from Milton Keynes College UAL Foundation Diploma in Art and Design, and with other contributions from Westbury artists and Art Club.

After the ceremony attendees warmed up with refreshments in the Drawing Room where there is an exhibition of the illustrations. Visitors also enjoyed a tour of Westbury building and grounds.
