COURSE/WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION
ABOUT THIS COURSE: Over the course of this 5 week course, students will have the opportunity to explore the linocut printing process and develop their own skills in the medium. Students will create 3 images during this course, starting in week 1 with our pattern making image (carving out an abstract pattern using all of our different blades and techniques). Starting in week 2, we will be practicing and developing our new skills by designing, carving and printing our own images, either using provided images from categories such as plants, animals and buildings for guidance or developing our own if more confident. During this exercise we will develop our transferring and carving skills and understanding of positive and negative space. For our third block we will developing our own images using the skills we have built up over our previous linocuts. These images can be inspired by the Westbury Arts Centre, taking advantage of our surroundings, although this is not a requirement, the images can be of anything your heart desires. All students will go home with several prints and greeting cards of their own designs. This course is suitable for beginners and improvers, or those who would like to refresh their skills.
