Westbury Arts Centre studio holder, Asya Duko, exhibits at The Society of Women Artists show in London

Westbury Arts Centre studio holder, Asya Duko, has had her work selected for the second time to be exhibited at The Society of Women Artists show at the Mall Galleries, London June 25th – 29th 2024.

The Secret Keeper

Asya is exhibiting two pieces that she sculpted with air drying clay around a wire armature.

The Secret Keeper communicates the ideas from the following extract from the book The Little Prince by French writer, Antoine de Saint-Exupery:  'And now here is my secret, a very simple secret: it is only with the heart that one can see rightly, what is essential is invisible to the eye'.

The Music of My Heart

The second sculpture, The Music of My Heart, aims to communicate a further idea from same book:  'The most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or touched, they are felt with the heart.'

Asya explains: “Life is full of mystery. This is what I am fascinated with and what I try to represent in my art. Every piece has a certain concept and hidden story. When creating my art, the narrative part is essential, although the visual form holds a key to revealing the idea.

“I use air drying ‘Paperclay’ which is sculpted over a support wire structure and finished with oil, acrylic, watercolour, and pastels. Relief paintings are completed on a canvas board and shaped with ‘Paperclay’.

“I pay attention to every detail, be it shape, colour, antique or vintage items which I sometimes incorporate into my pieces.”

Asya was born in Russia and her early life and rich cultural heritage has created a storehouse of visual imagery in terms of subject matter, colour, and form, from which she now draws her inspiration.

The Society of Women Artists’ 163rd Annual Open exhibition will be at the Mall Galleries, The Mall, St. James’s, London SW1Y 5AS , June 25th – 29th.
