COURSE/WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION

WHO IS THIS COURSE SUITABLE FOR? The course is suitable for beginners or improvers. ABOUT THE COURSE: Objective: The students will learn how to use air drying clay and how to build up layers of clay to create a relief form. The students will be given a demonstration on applying various techniques when creating a relief. Activity: During the workshop the students will use images or sketches of the chosen subject that they have sourced to create a relief. Various reliefs made by the artist will be provided as samples. The students will sculpt the image and then refine it with shaping tools and sandpaper. The students will explore a variety of textures while imprinting a surface and detailing the relief form. Day 1: Learning air drying clay, discussing the ideas, and creating the sketches of relief images. Day 2: Starting to sculpt the relief shapes. Day 3: Sculpting the relief shapes. Day 4: Continuing to sculpt the relief, creating the textured surface, and finishing the background. Day 5: Painting the sculpted images and the background. ABOUT THE TUTOR: Asya Dudko, was born in Russia and her early life and rich cultural heritage has created a storehouse of visual imagery in terms of subject matter, colour, and form, from which she now draws her inspiration. Her artistic interests are wide ranging, creating figurative sculptures, paintings, and engaging multi-dimensional reliefs, often exploring favourite themes and motifs. Since relocating to the UK in the 2000’s, Asya has attained a 1st Class Honours Degree in Interior Design, tutored both novice and established students in several established Art Schools, and exhibited her work widely. She is a unique and distinctive artist, the winner of Helen Sinclair Award, SWA, 2022. MATERIALS PROVIDED: Creative Paperclay, brushes, sculpting tools, sandpaper, acrylic paints, sketching paper, and pencils. MATERIALS/EQUIPMENT YOU NEED TO BRING: Streched canvas board, size A3 or similar and one additional canvas board of any size up to A3. LOCATION: Drawing Room or Studio 15. The Drawing Room and Studio 15 are situated on the ground floor of Westbury Arts Centre. Accessible parking spaces are available to anyone who requires them.
