Immersive Mixed Media Sketchbook Retreat
Deepening Your Practice

COURSE/WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION
ABOUT THE COURSE: This two-day mixed media sketchbook retreat is designed for artists and creatives who want to deepen their personal visual language and build a more intentional sketchbook practice. Rather than introducing techniques, this retreat offers an immersive and supported space to work intensively on a self-chosen theme, using a wide range of media including paint, collage, print, and stitch. It’s ideal for those who already have some creative experience — whether through textiles, drawing, journaling or mixed media — and want to go deeper. Over the course of the retreat, you’ll be encouraged to develop visual rhythm and cohesion within your sketchbook, experiment boldly, and reflect critically on your creative choices. Daily prompts, optional mini-demonstrations, and 1:1 support will guide you as you explore your theme in depth. By the end of the weekend, you’ll have built a sketchbook that feels personal, expressive, and uniquely yours — and you’ll leave with fresh energy and ideas to carry back into your wider practice. ABOUT THE TUTOR: Hilary Grayson is a passionate maker and contemporary abstract artist. She creates lampshades, pictures and decorative mixed media stitch and textile pieces which incorporate paint, paper, print, collage and cloth often incorporating recycled materials. Hilary loves working into sketchbooks – they are places to experiment and have fun. By joining Hilary's workshop, you can expect a supportive and nurturing environment where you can freely express your creativity. Whether you're a seasoned artist or someone new to art, Hilary's approach focuses on letting go of inhibitions and enjoying the artistic journey. It's a space where you can explore different materials, techniques, and ideas, using the sketchbook as a canvas for your imagination.
