COURSE/WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION

ABOUT THIS WORKSHOP: A fun and informal introduction to the traditional craft of signwriting. Participants will learn about the tools, materials and techniques involved in signwriting, and will practice the brush strokes and construction of traditional hand painted letters. Participants will produce their own signwriting showcard. WHO IS THIS WORKSHOP SUITABLE FOR: This session is suitable for beginners No signwriting knowledge is assumed or required. TUTOR INFORMATION: Esther North AKA Sylvie Signs is a signwriter and artist. She has been teaching signwriting since 2019 and has produced work for clients such as Meta and Habitat. Her work combines bold typographic and geometric designs with the process, heritage and tradition of the craft of signwriting. She is passionate about passing on knowledge and respect for painted letters and traditional techniques. MATERIALS TO BRING WITH YOU: Please bring a notebook and a pen/pencil. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Refreshments (such as teas and coffees only) available on site. You might also want to bring a small snack to eat during a short break. LOCATION: This workshop will take place in the Drawing Room, Studio 15 or Legge Room situated on the ground floor with accessible access. Accessible parking spaces are available to anyone who requires them.
