COURSE/WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION

ABOUT THIS WORKSHOP: Have fun selecting from a huge variety of vibrant coloured glass scraps to make a colourful sun catcher. Learn basic glass cutting, copper foiling and soldering techniques, and a bit about designing for stained glass or be spontaneous with your pattern, and make it up as you arrange your glass pieces. The fun of this course is in playing with and arranging scraps and it is possible to make up a sun catcher without cutting any glass at all and therefore enables learners with weak hands to still enjoy working with glass. (Copper foiling is a way of assembling differently coloured glass pieces used in the making tiffany lampshades.) You will end the day with a vibrant piece of glass sized 15 x 15cm approx to hang or place in your window, and be uplifted by the wonderful coloured light it harnesses. Course aims & objectives Learn how to make patterns for a small stained glass panel Learn and develop basic glass cutting techniques Learn how to copper foil Learn how to solder TUTOR INFORMATION: Jill Fordham is a Cambridge based stained glass artist who has been running a stained glass business making bespoke glass pieces for 30 years either for exhibition or commissions. She has taught stained glass and art courses for 20 years and has more recently been involved in a number of community art projects. For more information go to www.hurdy-gurdyglass.co.uk MATERIALS PROVIDED: All tools and materials will be provided for making a stained a glass panel ITEMS TO BRING WITH YOU: Wear close toed shoes, bring an apron and your own lunch and snacks ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: The workshop is scheduled to take place from 10am to 4pm, which includes approximately 30 minutes break for lunch. Refreshments (such as teas and coffees only) available on site. Bring your lunch with you. LOCATION: This workshop will take place in the Barn Gallery. Accessible parking spaces are available to anyone who requires them.
