COURSE/WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION

WHO IS THIS COURSE SUITABLE FOR. The course is suitable for all artists of all levels of experience: you can be a complete beginner or an experienced professional who would like to refresh their skills. ABOUT THE COURSE: This five-week course will give you the opportunity to get too grips with the very versatile and mobile medium of oil paint. Sometimes you will draw in charcoal use a limited palette and enhance your colour mixing skills. You will create small studies sometimes prior to the main painting. The topics will be varied, some seasonal, still life, as well as exploring other artists techniques and approaches. You will gain an understanding of traditional oil techniques, for example Impasto, Scumbling, Glazing, Underpainting by the end of the 5 weeks. ABOUT THE TUTOR: Tutor: Julia Roach has a degree in Painting from Canterbury College of Art and then went onto gain a Master of Fine Arts at the University of Newcastle-Upon Tyne. Julia has over 35 years of experience of teaching Painting and Drawing too both to adults and children. In her own practice drawing is an intrinsic part of her creative process, and she enjoys using a variety of mediums in her artwork, her work has been described as both illustrative and playful. MATERIALS TO BRING: A list of materials will be emailed to you on booking. LOCATION: Studio 15 is situated on the ground floor of Westbury Arts Centre. Accessible parking spaces are available.
