Westbury Arts Centre is delighted to have been awarded a grant by Milton Keynes Community Foundation to contribute to the costs of running an annual competition for young artists in Milton Keynes.
The competition, Westbury MK Open Young Artist, will this year, thanks to the Milton Keynes Community Foundation’s donors, be run separately for Primary and Secondary school age children. This helps more students to enter the competition as the dates fit around their respective examinations, and it enables the young people to show their work alongside their peers.
Schools are invited to submit free of charge one piece of work from up to 10 students and the best from each of four age categories is awarded prizes by a team of judges. An overall winner is chosen from among the Primary and Secondary school submissions respectively.
Prizes include private tuition from a professional artist based at Westbury Arts Centre, plus a voucher for arts materials for the school.
The competition aims to inspire and celebrate the work of the many young artists within schools in Milton Keynes. It supports the development of participants’ creative skills and also enhances their sense of purpose and wellbeing.
The exhibition of the work of Primary School Children is open to the public to visit Sunday 18 May, 11am - 4pm at the Barn Gallery, Westbury Arts Centre.
