COURSE/WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION
On this 5 week course you will learn the basics of painting in watercolour and pick up a few tips and tricks to help you tackle your watercolour painting with confidence. Suitable for beginners and above. You will begin with paper stretching and creating a wash. Moving onto colour mixing, choosing your pallet for the best effect, and how to keep your colours vibrant. You will explore paint effects and techniques that will help you build texture in your painting, how to deal with mistakes and which brush to use when. We will look at master artists David Hockney, Van Gogh and others examining their mark making techniques in their watercolour sketches. This course will also cover the basics such as ● paper stretching ● creating washes ● colour mixing ● maintaining vibrancy with your colours ● development of brush techniques and effects. By the end of this course, you will have completed a minimum of 2 pieces of work. The first will be following a step-by-step process, working from a selection of images provided, your own work or working from still life in the studio. ABOUT TUTOR: Samantha is an Artist and Illustrator living in Northamptonshire working mainly in watercolour and printmaking. Her work is a response to the landscape and people around her with images that have a narrative or sense of stillness in a moment. Having completed a Foundation Diploma in Art, Design and Illustration at the University of East Anglia, Samantha went on to graduate from the University of the West of England with a BA Hons in Design and Illustration. While studying she was shortlisted for the Macmillian Children’s Book Illustration Competition which kickstarted her freelance career. She went on to join the Greetings Card Industry in Northamptonshire where she remained for 15 years. Samantha is now working as a freelance Artist and Illustrator and runs regular workshops in Northamptonshire. She believes everyone can paint and with the right skills become more confident in the process. WHAT'S PROVIDED: - Studio easels and drawing boards are available to use during the sessions if you wish - Watercolour paints - Watercolour paper - Basic tools like brushes, palettes and water pots provided LOCATION: Drawing Room is situated on the ground floor of Westbury Arts Centre. Accessible parking spaces are available to anyone who requires them. We are happy to offer assistance to visitors wherever possible, upon prior arrangements.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS FOR BOOKING WORKSHOPS AND COURSES Payment for classes and workshops You must pay in full for your workshop or course in advance of attending your first class. Withdrawals, transfers and cancellations If you need to withdraw from a course and inform us in writing at least 14 working days before the course is due to start, you will be eligible for a refund of your fees minus £5.00 to cover administration costs. If you withdraw from a course at any other time, you will not be eligible for a refund. However, in exceptional circumstances and at our discretion we may make refunds of some or all of the fees, and will deduct a £5.00 fee for administration. Bookings can be transferred to another course at no additional charge (apart from the difference in course fees) if you inform us at least 14 working days in writing. We will refund your fee in full in the unlikely event that we cancel a course or workshop, for example, due to lack of numbers, tutor ill-health, or other unforeseen circumstances. Class materials Your course/workshop confirmation email will advise you on what materials you need to bring to the class. Unless stated on the workshop details information on our website lunch is NOT provided but free tea and coffee are available. Photography/video By taking part in a WAC course/workshop or event you give full rights to use any images resulting from photography/ filming during the event. Personal data According to the Data Protection Act 2018 we are required to advise you of the uses we will make of the personal data you provide when making a class booking. These are: • To manage your booking, record your attendance, • To contact you in advance of the class to confirm your booking, to remind you of your booking and to advise of any materials you should bring • To contact you in case of changes to the time, date, venue or content • To survey you from time to time on behalf of WAC to gain feedback on your experience and satisfaction with WAC. • To email you our online newsletter l so that you can keep in touch about other WAC courses/workshops events and news.
