COURSE/WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION

This course offers a supportive environment for beginners and for those wishing to expand their existing practice through a range of printmaking techniques. Over 10 weeks, you will explore three core processes, collograph, lino printing, and intaglio experimenting with how they can be mixed, layered, and adapted as you develop your own designs and imagery. The emphasis is on exploration, testing ideas, and building confidence with tools, materials, and methods. What you will learn: Multiple‑colour lino printing using a key block Creating and carving lino blocks Registering prints accurately Building collograph plates from textured and recycled materials Understanding, mixing, and applying inks Etching acrylic plates to create intaglio printing matrices Combining and overlaying techniques to enhance depth, colour, and texture Weeks 1-3: Collograph - Creating a mixed media matrix (1-3 wks). Developing matrix’s and using both intaglio and relief printing techniques to create prints. Weeks 4-6: Relief printmaking (linocut) focuses on working with positive and negative space to develop designs, lines, textures, and patterns. Students learn multicolour printing through creating a key block and using registration techniques, with the option to incorporate the Chine‑collé technique into their prints. Weeks 7-10: Intaglio printmaking involves creating drypoint plates using acrylic sheets and recycled household materials, then developing a variety of prints including monoprints, multicolour prints and combined intaglio–relief pieces enhanced with carborundum paste. What to bring Drawings, photos or reference images to work from. Work will be created at A5/A6 to ensure pieces can be completed within the course timeframe and fit the press. Working with 1 - 2 images throughout will allow you to: Understand how each technique shapes your visual language Experiment with layering, combining, and overlapping methods Build depth, texture, and colour in your prints What's included Using mini presses, spoons, and barens to print plates Learning to create a simple registration board Printing on standard cartridge paper Introduction to a range of specialist printmaking papers Working with both relief and intaglio printing inks ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Enjoy complimentary teas and coffees on site. LOCATION: This workshop will take place in Studio 15 situated on the ground floor. Accessible parking on site.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS FOR BOOKING WORKSHOPS AND COURSES Payment for classes and workshops You must pay in full for your workshop or course in advance of attending your first class. Withdrawals, transfers and cancellations If you need to withdraw from a course and inform us in writing at least 14 working days before the course is due to start, you will be eligible for a refund of your fees minus £5.00 to cover administration costs. If you withdraw from a course at any other time, you will not be eligible for a refund. However, in exceptional circumstances and at our discretion we may make refunds of some or all of the fees, and will deduct a £5.00 fee for administration. Bookings can be transferred to another course at no additional charge (apart from the difference in course fees) if you inform us at least 14 working days in writing. We will refund your fee in full in the unlikely event that we cancel a course or workshop, for example, due to lack of numbers, tutor ill-health, or other unforeseen circumstances. Class materials Your course/workshop confirmation email will advise you on what materials you need to bring to the class. Unless stated on the workshop details information on our website lunch is NOT provided but free tea and coffee are available. Photography/video By taking part in a WAC course/workshop or event you give full rights to use any images resulting from photography/ filming during the event. Personal data According to the Data Protection Act 2018 we are required to advise you of the uses we will make of the personal data you provide when making a class booking.
