LOUIS FRANCIS
Stone Carver & Letter Cutter
Louis Francis is the owner of Francis Stone Design, a stone art business based in Milton Keynes, providing quality stone craftsmanship and services. Louis gained his skills by attending Central Saint Martins Art College before progressing to London Art School where he gained his City & Guild qualification. Louis is classically trained in Architectural Stone Carving and has been honing his craft since 2008 and more recently completing his Level 1 Dry Stone Walling qualification.
Commissions range from memorial headstones, sculpture, house signage, stone conservation and dry stone walling repairs. He has worked on a range of private and public commissions, from war memorials to sculptures. His most notable achievement was when he was commissioned by HRH Queen's Fabric Advisory Committee to design and carve a grotesque for St Georges Chapel, Windsor Castle. The grotesque was installed above the main entrance to the chapel and remains his greatest accolade to date.
Louis prides himself on his main specialism, letter cutting, and enjoys working with the medium of welsh slate and recently Louis was honoured to have the first commemoration in Buckingham of the Holocaust Memorial Day.
Louis made a special TV appearance on BBC's "See Hear" programme featuring an in-depth interview in which he was filmed by a BBC crew working and talking about his work in his studio here, at Westbury!
