WHO IS THIS COURSE SUITABLE FOR? The course is suitable for beginners and improvers. ABOUT THE COURSE: In each of weeks 1-4, we’ll make a small gift or decorative item using materials such as fabric, paper, ribbon & braid, threads, beads and buttons. On the final week, we’ll make a selection of gift bags and boxes for presenting our made items. No prior skills needed other than an open mind and a creative urge. Week 1: Fabric bangles & brooches Week 2: Embellished fabric & bead window charm Week 3: Quirky sculpted textile statuette Week 4: Miniature vase & flowers Week 5: Paper gift bags and boxes. ABOUT THE TUTOR: Jo Klimek Originally from Surrey and then London, Jo has been a maker of sorts for most of her life although there have been a few distractions along the way - children, her career as a primary school teacher and Headteacher, grandchildren etc. Jo completed City & Guilds in Creative Textiles course, and as a result developed new skills and more importantly met many new talented and likeminded friends. She works mostly with textiles and paper - often combined - and loves to mix up colours, patterns and techniques. She makes new items from scratch such as books, bags and dolls but also alter existing items such as suitcases or pieces of furniture, giving clothes and household linens a new purpose. Jo enjoys sharing her skills and ideas with others. MATERIALS/EQUIPMENT YOU NEED TO BRING: You will need a notebook and pencil. MATERIALS PROVIDED: Materials will be provided, but please bring a notebook and pencil (as above). If you have your own treasured ‘scraps’ that you want to incorporate into your projects then bring them along. LOCATION: Drawing Room. The Drawing Room is situated on the ground floor of Westbury Arts Centre. Accessible parking spaces are available to anyone who requires them.
